Gannet

Gannet is the last human outpost in the borders of the Eastland. It is a major port city inhabited by humans, wood elves, and dwarves. It exists as a source of gems, and more recently, one of the components necessasary in making gunpowder.

The humans rule the city, but the sheer number of elves and dwarves give them some say in the affairs of the community. The wood elves are mostly employed to guard the city from invasion with their knowledge of the ways of the wood and the dwarves do most of the mining of ore.

The city itself is built on a plateau, which affords it a good strategic location from which to defend itself. The cliffs surrounding the city are over 100 feet high and passage to the city is only by air or the tunnel that leads to the plain below. No trees are allowed to grow for a few hundred yards of the cliffs to make it easier to defend. The growth is burned that does spring up.

Much of the city is located underground as more and more population grows with the need for gunpowder throughout the know world. Only the rich can afford housing above ground. The city is very confined for space, and the buildings rise high in the air, up to 10 stories high, constructed of iron and steel. Beneath the city, with openings to the walls and downwind of the city are countless forges whose fires burn around the clock. This is to get the iron out of the ore that is mined specifically for materials to continue building the city.

Despite the lack of space, the city knows the need for nature, and in the middle of it, a large park graces the city.
