The Prison City of Anon

Anon is a city built above the most secure prison in Asterland. The prison has stood for centuries, long into the dawn of time, even before the Mannish-Elven war. The prison lies in a system of caves below the island city. The caverns wind downward for miles, the ends of which have not been discovered, but are said to reach over a hundred miles in several directions. Most expeditions to map the extent of the system have never returned. What is know is that the cave system is also home to drow and illithids, or mind flayers. The security of the prison comes from the difficulty in finding one's way around the maze of caves as well as the difficulty in escaping the island itself.

The bay of Anon is one of the few places in Asterland where oil flows above Jera's surface. It bubbles up from beneath the surface of the bay, where it burns continually. This makes escape almost impossible by swimming to shore, as the entire bay is a patchwork of burning oil. A black cloud rises from the burning spots continually, which causes a haze to settle over the island, making breathing all but impossible. The effects of the polluted air are best avoided with a sort of air filtered mask that the permanent citizens of Anon use. The prisoners are given no such luxuries.

Anon sits in the middle of the bay, a significant military outpost. From here one can see the whole of the northern part of the bay. The bay iself is home to the aquatic elves, and a sort of uneasy treaty between them and the humans inhabiting Anon.

The elves live above and below the water line on floating islands made of vegetation called bobvine. In much the way that the wood elves build their homes of woven vines, the aquatic elves use the viny kelp-like substance to make floating habitats. Different varieties of the kelp float, while others sink, some are viny and strong, while others are soft and edible. The aquatic elves can breathe underwater through small gills on their necks, which are almost unnoticeable unless one looks carefully. Also, the aquatic elves prefer long hair, which covers the slits. They can live above or below water almost equally well. They get along well with the sahaguin and other humanoid sea-dwellers.
