Travel in the Steam Age
The master
druids of the elves are the only in Jera to know the true nature of the
world's history. This knowledge they hide from their people in an effort
that none might know the part that the elves played in the near destruction
of the world and the suffering that followed. They have held back the development
of flight from the knowledge of the general populace until recently.
Human
Airship Development
Mirril pirates
reinvented the airship, using lithell birch as the source of lift, spelljamming
power the souce of locamotion. After the destruction of the pirates, the
remaining people of Mirril sieze the remaining ships as their own as well
as the records of how to build them. The city council sells the knowledge
to Grunburg University for study, the money being used to rebuild the cloud
city. As part of the research, the university sages learn how to move the
cloud city about. Mirril is move to Grunburg, where it comes under the
protective arm of Grunburg. It is the subject of constant study. Soon the
sages learn the secrets to constructing a flying city and smaller "bergs" soon
decorate the skies above the metropolis. Much to-do is made over where
they should be parked and who should suffer from lack of sunlight. It is
decided that they will revolve around Mirril, which will remain stationary.
Elven
Balloons & Airships
The elven
master druids allow the development of lighter than air craft. They
see the development of air travel vehicles as a threat to the power
of the elves in Jera. They still hold back the spelljamming knowledge,
but their resolve wavers as the humans gain air superiority.
