Frondstein

In a forest workshop to the northwest of Grunburg lives a strange little wizard named frondstein. His is known far and wide, especially among the children, for his wonderful enchanted toys. Frondstein's assistant Frits carves the wooden toys and lovingly paints them gay colors. Frondstein enchants them, bringing them to life. The results are the best toys in all the kingdom of Asterland.

He can be seen wandering the streets of Grunburg, but he usually moves about disguised as someone else. He is an illusionist of great skill. When he is not making toys, he watches the children of Grunburg in disguise to see who is good. Especially kind children will recieve one of the magical toys. It is said that Frondstein supports himself with a cache of treasure that he gained during his former days as an adventuring wizard. Indeed, Frondstein never seems to lack for funds and will never accept money for his toys. He stands firm that only the nicest children will recieve the work of his hands.

His mother was a halfling, accounting for his small size of 5 feet tall. He shrugs off comments about his size, confident in his abilities. He causes no trouble in town and is kind to all. He is quick to give a begger alms and just as likely to grin a wide, toothy grin to any that pass his way. Many say that he is a bit not right in the head, while most are just glad for the renewal of faith in mankind that he facilitates to those around him.

He is followed everywhere by his familiar, a marmot named "Duke." The creature is very intellegent and is a faithful watchdog at night and a fearless defender when Fronstein is in danger. When purturbed, the marmot grows to three times its size and attacks with the fury of a dragon. The marmot has taken down many an assailant meaning harm to its master.
