are curious little humanoids, distant relatives to the gnomes. They
prefer to live near forest meadows or lakes, in houses built in the
surrounding trees. They are generally fun-loving in nature, and not
malicious in any way. They prefer never to shed blood if they can avoid
it. They are more nuisances than real threats. Their usual mode of
'attack' is to sneak up on a party, or preferrably a lone person, and
attack with the little web wands that they use. This is about the only
magic that they use or posses. These wands have unlimited charges,
and can only be used by a gremlin. Once the victim(s) are securely
webbed, they cut through the webbing just enough to steal any treasure
that is easily carried off. They especially like magical items, not
that they use them, but they sell for much gold. If a gremlin
is encountered and it is convinced that one has no treasure to steal,
it can be friendly, and sometimes helpful. In doing so, it will usually
have ulterior motives, such as to find out if there are any more like
you, that might have treasure to be stolen. As long as there appears
to be nothing to gain by befriending one, they are harmless. They will
try never to be followed, revealing the location of their home. A gremlin
villiage is hard to spot from a distance. Their homes are camouflaged
well in the trees. Their leader will usually be a human that they have
come to i trust, usually a wizard of some kind, which creates their
web wands, the creatures having as little to do with magic as possible.
They just don't have the knack for creating new things. They have a
fascination for machines, much as the tinker gnomes in the Dragonlance
series, though they do so on a smaller scale.
